Most GPS dog collars answer one question: Where is my dog right now?

The SATELLAI Collar Go wants to answer a harder one: How is my dog actually doing?

Winner of CNET’s Best of CES 2026 award for pet tech, the Collar Go combines real-time GPS tracking with an AI-powered health monitoring system called Petsense AI — and it does it all for under $110 CAD with no subscription required for the AI features. That’s a bold pitch from a relatively new brand, so we put it through weeks of real-world testing to see if it delivers.

Here’s what we found.

What Is Petsense AI (And Why It Matters)

This is the feature that separates the Collar Go from every other GPS tracker on the market. Petsense AI isn’t just counting steps or logging walk times. It’s building what SATELLAI calls a “digital twin” — a personalized behavioural baseline for your specific dog.

Over time, the system tracks:

  • Walking and running patterns — pace, duration, intensity
  • Rest and sleep quality — how long, how deep, when it changes
  • Activity rhythms — your dog’s normal daily cycle
  • Head-shaking frequency — a surprisingly useful early indicator of ear infections, allergies, or discomfort

Instead of generic “your dog walked 40 minutes today” reports, Petsense AI learns what normal looks like for your dog. When something shifts — less activity, disrupted sleep, increased head shaking — the app flags it and explains what it noticed.

The system is powered by a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) knowledge engine, which means you can ask it plain-English questions like “Is my dog acting normally for her breed and age?” or “How has her sleep changed this week?” and get data-backed answers.

The best part: Petsense AI comes as a free update for all SATELLAI devices. No subscription. No premium tier. The AI features are just… included.

That’s a significant differentiator when competitors like PetPace charge $150+ CAD per year just for their health monitoring platform.

GPS Tracking: Fast, Accurate, Global

The GPS side of the Collar Go is genuinely impressive. It uses five global satellite navigation systems (GNSS) with proprietary calibration technology, which translates to accurate, real-time positioning that doesn’t leave you guessing.

Live tracking updates every second when you need it, and the app shows your dog’s exact location — not a vague circle two houses away. During off-leash park sessions, the tracking was responsive enough to follow a full-speed zoomie session without lag.

Virtual Boundaries and Escape Alerts

You can create unlimited virtual fences — square or circular — directly in the app. There’s no minimum area requirement, so it works just as well in a small backyard as it does at a friend’s property or a campsite.

The moment your dog crosses a boundary, you get an instant push notification. During testing, alerts were fast and reliable.

Important clarification: This is not a containment fence. It doesn’t deliver any kind of correction or physically keep your dog in an area. It alerts you when they leave. If you need actual virtual fence containment, SATELLAI’s flagship Collar (a separate, pricier product) offers that.

Global Coverage

The built-in eSIM connects to 115 networks in 51 countries, making this one of the more travel-friendly trackers available. If you take your dog across the border or on international trips, the Collar Go keeps working without swapping SIM cards or buying local plans.

Design and Build Quality

At 49 grams, the Collar Go is light enough that most medium and large dogs won’t notice it. It attaches to any existing collar or harness — you don’t need to replace your gear — though SATELLAI does include a band in the box if you want a dedicated setup.

The IP68 waterproof rating means rain, mud, puddles, and even lake swims are fine. After several weeks of Canadian spring weather (read: everything is wet), the unit showed zero issues.

USB-C charging is a small detail that matters more than you’d think. No proprietary dock. No magnetic cable that vanishes into a junk drawer. Just grab any USB-C cable and plug it in. Charging takes about two hours for a full cycle.

Battery life held up well during testing. With a mix of live tracking sessions and normal monitoring, we consistently got 12–14 days between charges. If you’re running constant live tracking, expect closer to 10 days. If you mostly rely on periodic updates and At Home mode (which uses Wi-Fi to conserve battery), you can push toward the full 15-day claim.

Extra Features Worth Mentioning

Starlight LED

Three adjustable lighting modes make your dog visible during evening walks or help you spot them in a dark backyard. It’s simple but genuinely useful during Canadian winter evenings when it’s dark by 4:30 PM.

NFC Digital ID

Anyone with an NFC-enabled phone can tap the collar to instantly pull up your contact details. It’s a modern upgrade over traditional ID tags — no engraving to wear off, and you can update your info anytime through the app.

Two-Way Audio

You can speak through the collar via the app. It’s not going to replace a training session, but it’s handy for getting your dog’s attention from a distance or providing a calming voice for anxious pups.

AI Coach

Beyond passive monitoring, the built-in AI Coach lets you ask questions about your dog’s behaviour, activity patterns, or health data and get instant, personalized responses. Think of it as a 24/7 pet wellness FAQ trained on your dog’s actual data.

Telecom Plans: The Ongoing Cost

Here’s the part that requires some honest math. The Collar Go needs a telecom plan to enable GPS tracking, virtual fences, live tracking, and health monitoring. Plans are purchased through the SATELLAI Go app:

PlanMonthly Cost (USD)Monthly Cost (~CAD)Billing Cycle
2-Year Plan$6/mo~$8/mo$144 every 2 years
1-Year Plan$9/mo~$12/mo$108 every year
6-Month Plan$12/mo~$16/mo$72 every 6 months

The 2-year plan is the best value, but it’s a commitment to a newer brand. All plans include worldwide data coverage with no hidden fees.

How Does It Compare? SATELLAI Collar Go vs. the Competition

Here’s how the Collar Go stacks up against popular GPS dog trackers available in Canada:

*Fi Series 3 battery life is longer because it uses a low-power tracking mode and relies on base stations; live tracking drains it faster.

The takeaway: If you want GPS tracking and AI health monitoring in a single device without paying two separate subscriptions, the Collar Go is currently the only game in town at this price point. Tractive wins on pure subscription cost, and Fi wins on battery life, but neither offers anything close to Petsense AI’s health insights.

What We’d Like to See Improved

No review is complete without honest criticism. Here’s where the Collar Go falls short:

Limited Size Options

Only two sizes — M (13"–18") and L (17"–26"). If you have a small breed like a Chihuahua, Yorkie, or toy poodle, the Collar Go likely won’t fit comfortably. SATELLAI will need to add an S or XS option to compete for the full market.

New Brand, Unproven Track Record

SATELLAI is a young company. They’ve won awards and partnered with Qualcomm and AWS, but they don’t have years of customer service history to point to. The 1-year warranty and 30-day return policy are reassuring, but long-term reliability is still an unknown. Early reviews from K9 Magazine and Technobark have been positive, which is encouraging.

Petsense AI Is Still Learning

The AI health features are genuinely innovative, but they need time — both to learn your individual dog’s baseline (about two weeks of wear) and to mature as a platform. SATELLAI has promised future integration with pet insurance providers and veterinary ecosystems, but those features aren’t here yet. Today, it’s a wellness nudge tool, not a diagnostic one.

Telecom Plan Required

Unlike AirTags or Tile trackers (which are limited but subscription-free), the Collar Go needs an active plan to function as a GPS tracker. The $6 USD/month floor is competitive, but it’s still a recurring cost on top of the hardware.

No Cat Support (Yet)

SATELLAI has confirmed cat compatibility is coming later in 2026, but for now this is a dogs-only device.

Who Should Buy the SATELLAI Collar Go?

It’s a great fit if you:

  • Want GPS tracking and health monitoring in one device
  • Have a medium to large dog
  • Travel with your dog (domestically or internationally)
  • Want AI-powered health insights without a separate premium subscription
  • Appreciate USB-C charging and aren’t willing to deal with proprietary docks

It’s probably not for you if you:

  • Have a small or toy breed (size options are limited)
  • Need a virtual containment fence (this is alerts only)
  • Want the cheapest possible GPS option (Tractive is less expensive)
  • Prefer a brand with a long established track record

Final Verdict: A Genuinely Different Smart Collar

The SATELLAI Collar Go isn’t just another GPS tracker with a “smart” label slapped on it. The combination of real-time tracking, AI-powered health monitoring, and a subscription-free AI platform makes it unlike anything else at this price point.

Is it perfect? No. The size options are limited, the brand is still proving itself, and the Petsense AI platform will only get better with time and data. But for ~$110 CAD upfront and $8 CAD/month, you’re getting a CES award-winning device that does things no competitor currently matches.

If you’re the kind of pet parent who wants to understand your dog — not just find them — the Collar Go is worth serious consideration.

Our rating: 4.2 / 5
